At Boxford CEVC Primary School, the aim of Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education is to offer both explicit and implicit learning opportunities and experiences which reflect pupils’ increasing independence and physical and social awareness, as they move through the primary phase. It builds on the skills that pupils started to acquire during the Early Years Foundation stage (EYFS) to develop effective relationships, assume greater personal responsibility and manage personal safety. PSHE education helps pupils to manage the physical and emotional changes at puberty, introduces them to a wider world and enables them to make an active contribution to their communities.

Teaching and learning: - EYFS to use key areas as mapped by PSHE Association (Health and wellbeing, Relationships, Living in the wider world). - You, Me, PSHE scheme of work to be used with a clear progression throughout the school (KS1 and KS2). - Weekly timetabled lessons that commit time for the following 7 different strands: Sex and relationship education (SRE), Drug, alcohol and tobacco education, Keeping safe and managing risk, Mental health and emotional wellbeing, Physical health and wellbeing, Careers, financial capability & economic wellbeing, Identity, society and equality. - A safe and supportive environment will be established: ground rules agreed by the staff and pupils, distancing techniques, discussions are managed sensitively, awareness of vulnerable pupils and enables them to safely participate. - Effective learning strategies used to engage pupils and challenge their thinking. - Pupils involved in active and participatory activities through which they develop skills and attitudes. |
- Vocabulary lists used to indication the words that we want children to become familiar with during each key stage.

*A PSHE reflections record is made where their pre and post-topic assessments and self-reflection sheets are kept – this is added to as pupils move up through the school.* The aim of our PSHE curriculum is to have a positive impact on our pupils and show that young people at all stages are prepared for life now and also for their next steps. The pupils will complete a pre (baseline assessment activity) and post-topic assessment sheet for each strand to identify and demonstrate progress made. Teaching starts from where the pupils are (drawing on the baseline assessment), pupils and teachers are able to see the progress made and pupils have opportunities to reflect on their learning |
Classroom environment enhances learning in PSHE • Book corner and role play areas reflect learning in the PSHE topic • Displays of pupil work/learning walls reflect learning in the PSHE topic • Information directing pupils how to access further advice, care or support is available (for example, posters)
